Influencers
INFLUENCERS TRAILER from R+I creative on Vimeo.
"INFLUENCERS is a short documentary that explores what it means to be an influencer and how trends & creativity become contagious today in music and fashion.
Directed by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson, the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives (advertising, design, fashion and entertainment) who are shaping today's pop culture." (The Cool Hunter)
There are indeed certain people that can tap into weak signals...singularly it's only one thing happening but when you see these signals all over the world it's a clear trend. I can't wait to see this documentary as I still find it massively interesting to see how and why things become the way the do. Taking NYC as their example is all well and good but we live in a global society, I would love to see this extend to look at the most influential "influencers" throughout the world.

Not quite Twi-hard
Something terrible happened. After moaning about the fact the Twilight films seemed to be lacking something my wonderful aunt forced the books into my hands: "You'll like them, I promise." I didn't believe her and so they have sat in a bag in the room for months. Literally. Until now.
This week has been relaxation week. After breaking up from work for the summer I've taken a week to unwind before starting my work placement at Fused Magazine. Apparently I can't just do nothing and so my fingers itched their way to that bag and I began to read. And there I found it...what's missing from the Twilight films: Bella's personality.
In the books she is quirky, cool, pretty, funny, clumsy, sarcastic and generally has bags of personality. The Bella Swan that people know and love (though I don't know why) from the films has none of this. Ok, so Kristen Stewart is pretty, but as Bella she lacks that personality. In fact, I don't think she cracks a smile at any point in the film. I re-watched it last night fearing I was being harsh but still saw no smile. Every other character though is spot on. Well...except for the fact that the supposedly extremely beautiful Dr Cullen and Co. are not all that beautiful. They're just creepy. And at no point does their skin (Edward included) ever look like diamonds.
I have now become obsessed with finishing the books. Stephanie Meyer's writing is fabulous. I have devoured both Twilight and New Moon in record time, have started on Eclipse and brought Breaking Dawn today. It cost me £15 as it is only currently available in hardback...and now I've just seen it half price online (follow my link). I must be stupid. How did this happen?! When reading the books you can create your own imaginary world. Everyone in my world is the same as in the films but Bella...but maybe it's pure jealousy the Kristen Stewart gets all close and personal with not only Robert Pattinson but Taylor Lautner too. Lucky girl.
No matter my opinion, it looks like Twilight is here to stay. Sorry to all those boys that just wish their girlfriends/wives/daughters would shut up about it! Read the books, avoid the films. Well, try at least, I have a feeling you'll struggle now Eclipse has been released at cinemas.

Poorly sick = Chick Flick
I'm sick. Not the *cough, cough*, *sniffle, sniffle*, "pass me the bucket", kind of sick. I have tonsillitis. Yes, as a friend has told me, it is a childs illness and at 22 it's about time I just have them pulled out. This is, after all, the second time I've had this in six weeks.
I always thought it was a mild illness until I realised it could effect everything...from giving you earache and headache to making you sick. My God. How do you fix it? In my case it's antibiotics. One problem though...I'm allergic to Penicillin and some other stuff. When I went off to the emergency doctor yesterday, expecting him to be very helpful, I told him of my allergies and his response was "well what exactly do you want me to give you then?" My response: "Well I don't know. YOU'RE the doctor." This was said with less force than I'd have liked because my throat was too bloody sore to voice my irritation properly.
So...in an attempt to make myself feel better I have digested chick flick after chick flick. After all, tonsillitis came on whilst in the cinema watching Letters to Juliet. (Nothing spectacular but a proper chick flick with lots of shots of the very beautiful Italian landscape.) I've watched everything from She's All That to 17 Again, embracing my childish romantic side. I challenge anyone under 25 to not find Zac Efron attractive when he steps out of that car on his first day back at school post K-Fed disaster.
On my first (and hopefully last day at work) I'm now sat wondering why chick flicks are the answer. Holed up in bed looking decidely NOT gorgeous, depite what the boy may think - he's not here to see the mess I am after all, I am indeed miles away from proclamations of love and dreamy days out in the sunshine. Despite all this I have completely ploughed through my collection, sleeping through a few I must say, so what next? Any ideas?

LSD Wonderland
So...for my birthday (as we went out on the weekend) I journeyed to the cinema to see Alice in Wonderland. There is no mistaking that this was a Tim Burton film. If not because of the Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp aspect because of the way everything seemed to work, like some mad journey. For this reason I can't think of anyone better to direct it.
I refused to go with expectations, I knew it'd ruin it. Sat there, definitely not being cool in my 3D glasses, I gaped at the screen, grinned at Johnny Depp and rubbed my temples when things got too much. Johnny Depp was my only expectation, I expected him to be amazing. I love him, so in one way he was...in the other his accent flitted from Willy Wonka to Jack Sparrow to a bad Scottish accent and back again. I live in the UK...I know what Scottish should sound like and that is not it. I'm not sure whether this should be a negative, he was playing the Mad Hatter so really flitting around like a mad man with split personalities surely is right? Really to assess his talent I'd have to know if it was intentional.
My favourite characters were the Bristish ones. This probably makes me biased but I don't care. Matt Lucas played the Tweedle Twins amazingly, Steven Fry was a wonderful Cheshire Cat and Alan Rickman made the perfect stoned caterpillar.
The best thing about the movie was the costumes...and the make up...
My friends review was the best. Blinking into the corridor all he could think to say was "I feel like I've been on LSD for an hour."
